Euless Honors the Life of George Zahn

It is with deepest sympathy that we share the news of the passing of George W. Zahn. He was an active volunteer for the City of Euless for over 30 years.

[George Zahn Receiving Award]George Zahn moved to Euless in 1972 where he and his wife raised two children. It was through George's involvement in the youth sports that he began his involvement with city boards.  George spoke to the Park Board in January 1982 about the ball fields at Midway Park and was subsequently appointed to the Park Board in 1984 where he served until 1987.

He was then appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission in 1987 and with the exception of a couple of years, George served faithfully until resigning in 2015. During his time on P&Z, he asked very specific questions during meetings and held developers accountable to their promises to ensure Euless received quality development. It was because of his very deep commitment to the City of Euless that he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

He was also a Scout Leader and volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America for almost 55 years and has served Longhorn Council. George has been described as family-oriented, humble and a driving force while acting behind the scenes. He always had a better community in mind with his actions and did not do anything for personal interest or gain. His legacy in Scouting has been recognized through multiple awards and recognitions, but it is his service and values instilled by scouting which has left a mark on this community. He will be greatly missed!

George’s obituary and service information is available online.
